Saint-Petersburg State Electrotechnical University Academic Choir (LETI)

 

The history of Saint-Petersburg State Electrotechnical University Academic Choir (LETI) counts more than 50 years and is rich of names, events and traditions. During last 16 years its art director and main conductor is Elena Kasyanova.

 

One of distinguishing features of LETI choir is singing a-capella – the highest form of choral singing. The choir performance mastery allows to develop the rich and complicated repertoire and to take part in various concerts, festivals and competitions, both in Russia and abroad.

 

There are first prizes at International competitions in the Czech Republic (Olomouc), Slovakia (Bratislava), Poland (Mendzyzdroe), Estonia (Tallinn) among the choir’s achievements during the last years.

 

Among the choir projects there are collaborative performances with Youth chamber choir of Saint-Petersburg, Era music band. LETI choir released and presented its first CD in State academic capella in 2014. Choir concert programs contain pieces of Russian sacred music, Russian and foreign classical music, folk songs, pieces of Saint-Petersburg composers and contemporary arrangements.

Elena Kasyanova graduated with honors from Saint-Petersburg Culture and Arts

State University (Academic choir department) in 2000. Since 1999 she is the art director and main conductor of LETI choir.

Saratov provincial theater of choral music was founded in 1991 by the initiative of Honored Worker of Arts of Russia Ludmila Litsova who is its art director and main conductor.

The collective is a laureate and Grand-Prix winner of International competition of choral music (Poland, 1993), V Internaltional competition “Yalta-Victoriya-2005” (Ukraine, Yalta, 2005), laureate of II International competition of choirs “Singing World” (2006), participant of more than 40 international festivals in France, Germany, Poland, Ukraine and Russia (Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Tambov, Saratov). The collective is a permanent participant of international festivals of orthodox music and “Moscow fall” in Moscow, Dyagilev festivals in Perm (2013, 2014), International music festival “World. Era. Names” (2014, 2015) and Interregional choral festival “Ascension” (2015) in Ulyanovsk, Volga choral assemblies in Volgograd (2014), Neygauz festival and Sobinov festivals in Saratov.

Its repertoire contains works of different epochs, styles and genres: from G. Palestrina and J.S. Bach to A. Schnitke and K. Penderecki. Saratov provincial theater of choral music recognized as one of the best Russia choirs, and a number of contemporary composers creates pieces specially for this collective (M. Arkadiev, M. Gogolin, S. Ekimov, M. Kalistratov, A. Kulygin, A. Larin, E. Podgayts, V. Ryavov, Y. Falik etc.). Many orchestras from Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Nizhny Novgorod, Krakow, Bydgoszcz, Hajnówka (Poland), Frankfurt am Main and Alzenau (Germany) collaborated with it; conductors D. Botinis, M. Granovsky, O. Zverev, D. Kitayenko, Y. Kochnev, F. Mansurov, A. Rudin, E. Serov, A. Feldman, E. Khilkevitch, O. Yanchenko (Russia), M. Knell, L. Kremer and G. Jenemann (Germany), H.M. Florenzo (Poland), T. Currentzis (Greece, Russia).

As a part of the collective different ages choirs successfully perform – the winners of international competitions.

Ludmila Litsova

Professor, Honored worker of Arts of Russia, graduate of Sobinov Saratov state conservatoire (1972) and postgraduate study on “Academic choir conductor” course (1974, class of professor E. Sidorova). Ludmila interned in Tchaikovsky Moscow state conservatoire at professor B. Tevlin class. Since 1972 she teaches at Saratov State Conservatoire, since 1992 she is the head of Academic choir conducting department, art director of Saratov state conservatoire Academic choir.

Ludmila Litsova is the laureate and Grand-Prix winner of international choral music competitions (Międzyzdroje, Poland, 1993; Yalta, Ukraine, 2005; Moscow, 1994, Samara, 2001, Saint-Petersburg, 2006, 2010, Russia).

She’s a jury member of many international competitions, an author of articles on choral education and performances problems. Ludmila is an initiator and art director of Open provincial academic choirs’ festivals-competitions “Golden lights of Saratov”, creative laboratories and workshops “Singing choirmaster”, “Conducting choirmaster”, Interregional competition of conductors and choirmasters “Choral provinces”, and choral master-classes. She is one of conductors of All-russian master-class “National youth choir” held in Tchaikovsky Moscow state conservatory.

Art-choir (Nizhny Novgorod)

Art-choir is a new youth collective that consists of Glinka Nizhny Novgorod State Conservatoire students. Suggesting scenic interpretation of musical compositions, it realizes an idea of choral theatre in its creativity.

The collective was founded in 2011. Its conductor Galina Suprunenko is the organizer and creative inspirer of the choir.

The repertoire of Art-choir consists of vocal and plastic versions of individual works such as “Pavana” by G. Fauré, “Bolero” of M. Ravel, folk songs arranged by M. Bronner, choral triptych “Ot vesny do oseni” (From spring to fall) and concert-rapsody “Pesni serdtsa” (Songs of heart) by E. Fertelmeister (choreographer L. Akinina), and also choral shows “Sentimentalnaya Sarabanda” (Sentimental Sarabande) and “Dykhanie Vselennoy” (Breath of the universe) (choreographer – E. Bogdanova), each of them is unique in its concept and embodiment. Concerts-shows connect music of different eras and styles from madrigals of С. Monteverdi, polyphony of J. Bach to modern music of B. Britten, Ē. Ešenvalds, E. Whitacre, P. Vasks etc.

The living action of Art-choir on stage, coming to the eyes of the audience, brings together all present by a united spirit of co-creation and empathy.

Galina Suprunenko

Galina is a Senior Lecturer at Choral conducting department of Glinka Nizhny Novgorod State Conservatoire.

She’s a laureate of All-Russian competition, Ph.D. in History of Arts (dissertation topic is “Choral theatre as a genre”).

Working as a choir conductor at Choral conducting department and Musical and pedagogical department, and also as a singer, Galina leads an active creative activity. She participates in concerts, festivals and season ticket events of Nizhny Novgorod State Conservatoire. Galina is the art director of Art-choir since 2011. Developing an idea of new direction in choral performance – choral theatre, Galina Suprunenko creates choral programs with a common dramaturgy, uniting the choral singing with plasticity, poetry and painting.

Chamber choir “CARPE DIEM” (Moscow, Russia)

Chamber choir began its history in Moscow Engineering PHysics Institute (MEPHI) in 2001. The collective annually participates in University cultural events, tours actively, performs at leading concert halls of Moscow and represents MEPHI at city and international festivals such as “Festos” (Moscow), “Chorus inside” (Moscow), “Paparats-kvetka” (Minsk), “Young voices – 2010” (Nizhny Novgorod), VII All-Russian academic choirs and vocal ensembles competition “Singing Russia” (Saint-Petersburg), VII International festival of student and academic choirs “Vesnushka-2012” (Yaroslavl). “Carpe diem” became laureate of 1st and 2nd degrees in 2 nominations at International music festival “Praha of Mozart” (Praha, Czech Republic) in 2013, it received the winner diploma in “Adult mixed choirs” nomination at International festival of choral and instrumental music “Slovakia cantat – 2014” (Bratislava, Slovakia). The collective has become the winner of “Mixed choirs” nomination and has won the special prize for the best performance of a cappella piece at II All-Russian choral competition-festival “Choral Kazan – 2016”. Chamber choir “Carpe diem” also presents independent programs in collaboration with professional music ensembles for the audience. Its repertoire contains music of different eras.

“Carpe diem” (lat.) means “Catch a moment, enjoy the present day”! Let a little bit of creativity will be in every moment of life! And then every day would have not lived in vain!

Elena Gurskaya

Elena graduated from Gnesiny State Musical College (class of V. Bogdanovskaya, Honored Worker of Culture) and Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatoire (class of Honored Arts worker of Russia, professor B. Kulikov). Since the third-year of the college she works with a variety of children’s choirs.

Since 2004 to 2008 Elena was a choirmaster, and then since 2008 until now she is art director of youth Chamber choir “CARPE DIEM” which successfully performs at Russian and international festivals.

Between her personal achievements: III degree laureate diploma (2013) and II degree diploma (2011) of Festival of young teachers and choirmasters of Moscow culture and art educational institutions; special conductor’s prize of International festival “Praha of Mozart” (2012, Praha); Prize of Government of Moscow for state culture institutions workers in “Best young specialist in the culture sphere” (2014), laureate diploma of international festival “Chorus inside” in “Choir conductor” nomination.

Nizhny Novgorod youth choir

Nizhny Novgorod youth choir is a unique project of Balakirev Nizhny Novgorod musical college unifying different higher and secondary schools of Nizhny Novgorod, Arzamas, Dzerzhinsk, Bogorodsk. The choir first gathered in September, 2015 for participation in “Victory’s fanfares” festival Gala-concert at Minina square, then there were concerts dedicated to People’s unity day at Balakirev Nizhny Novgorod Medical University and “Unity” festival. Main goal of the collective is to bring together talented young people of Nizhny Novgorod region from different schools to share experiences and promote choral singing among the students.

Maksim Ivanov

Maksim Ivanov graduated from Glinka Nizhny Novgorod State Conservatoire in 2012 from professor V. Kurzhavsky class, post-graduate course in 2014 at professor E. Fertelmeister class. He was working as a choirmaster of Dobrolyubov Nizhny Novgorod State Linguistic University, as an art director and main conductor of Tchaikovsky Izhevsk municipal chamber choir (2012-2013). Maksim was an initiator of Youth chamber choir “Movement” creation (2008-2010) and Nizhny Novgorod lecturers’ choir (2013-2015). Nowadays he’s a lecturer of Balakirev Nizhny Novgorod musical college.
