Linguistic University choir (Nizhny Novgorod, Russia)

People’s collective of Russia Academic Choir of Dobrolyubov Nizhny Novgorod State Linguistic University (or Linguistic University choir) was founded in 1991 by Vera Sladchenko, Honored Worker of Culture of Russia.

The choir is the Grand Prix winner of Chaliapin International Festival in Yalta (2009), International competition in France (2011), winner of Golden Diploma of International Festival “Riva del Garda” (Italy, 2008), Schumann International festival (Germany, 2010). It became the laureate of contest-festivals “Danube Rainbow” (Hungary, 2009), “Golden Voices” (Spain, 2010), “Prague Voices” (Czech Republic, 2013), International Choir Festival in Vienna (Austria, 2014), «Petersburg Choir Assemblies» (St. Petersburg, 2015), II Christmas Choir Festival in Warsaw (Poland, 2016), International Choir Assembly «Golden Crane» (Moscow, 2017).

In recent years, the choir has actively cooperated with leading creative collectives in Nizhny Novgorod and the nearest cities. It toured successfully and had joint performances with local collectives in Kirov, Arzamas, Vladimir and Moscow.

The basis of the collective’s repertoire contains pieces in different languages ​​of the world. Over the 25-year choir’s history, the choir has performed pieces in more than 30 languages, including English, Italian, German, French, Spanish, Japanese, Thai, Chinese, Georgian, Basque, Turkish, Czech, Polish, Hebrew, Greek, Hungarian, Balinese and many others.

Choirmaster of the choir is Narine Dvorschenko.

Maxim Ivanov

Art director of Linguistic University Choir, laureate of international competitions, teacher of Balakirev Nizhny Novgorod Musical College.

Maxim graduated from Glinka Nizhny Novgorod State Conservatory (class of Professor Viktor Kurzhavsky) and assistant internship (class of Professor Eduard Fertelmeister). Since 2015, he is the head of the project “Nizhny Novgorod Youth Choir”, since 2016 he became the artistic director of Linguistic University Choir. At different time periods, he also worked with Tchaikovsky Izhevsk Municipal Chamber Choir, Choir of Nizhny Novgorod teachers, Youth chamber choir “Movement” (Dvizheniye) and children’s collectives of the city.

Youth choir “Contrast” (Nizhny Novgorod, Russia)

Youth choir “Contrast” was founded in December 2006 on the initiative of Nizhny Novgorod Pedagogical College students. Nowadays, the choir participants are students of Nizhny Novgorod provincial college, graduates, students of secondary and higher educational institutions, as well as working young people of the city.

The choir is the laureate and a gold diplomas holder of International and All-Russian competitions in Prague (2008), Budapest (2009), Rive del Garda (2010), Ekaterinburg (2012), Siauliai (2014), Vologda (2015), Sochi (2016), Veliky Novgorod (2017). In the fall of 2017, the choir was selected as the winner of Regional and District stages, what gave the right to represent Volga Federal District in the final of All-Russian Choral Competition in Moscow, where he was awarded with the Laureate’s diploma with the second place. The choir considers its annual participation in Christmas and Easter night services in the cathedral of Nizhny Novgorod very important for itself.

Olga Podolskaya

Art director and conductor of Youth choir “Contrast”.

Olga graduated from A. Shestakov’s class of Nizhny Novgorod Music school in 1986, and later graduated from Professor M. Samorukova’s class of Nizhny Novgorod State Conservatory in 1994. After her graduation she taught at the music school at Nizhny Novgorod Music College. Since 1998 she works as a choir disciplines lecturer at Music department of Nizhny Novgorod Pedagogical College (renamed to Nizhny Novgorod Provincial College). Since 2007 she is the art director and conductor of amateur collective Youth choir “Contrast”.

The history of Academic Choir of Saint Petersburg State Electrotechnical University LETI is famous for its conductors, events and traditions. The collective was founded and has been performing for more than 60 years. Not only students, graduates and university workers sing in the choir, but also fans of choral art. Since 1999 the artistic director and conductor is Elena Kasyanova.

One of distinguishing features of LETI choir is a-capella singing – the highest form of choral performance. The collective performs at regional, all-Russian, international festivals and competitions, it has been awarded a number of honorable awards at prestigious Russian and international competitions (St. Petersburg, Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Estonia, Poland) during recent years, and the choir is a participant of contemporary music projects.

Concert programs of the choir include pieces of sacred music, Russian and foreign classics, folk songs, pieces by St. Petersburg composers and modern arrangements.

Elena Kasyanova
Art director and conductor of Academic Choir of St. Petersburg State Electrotechnical University LETI.
She graduated with honors from St. Petersburg University of Culture and Arts in 2000; since 1999 she has been leading LETI choir.

Academic Choir of Far Eastern Federal University was founded in 1999 on the basis of Eastern Institute of Far Eastern State Technical University. The choir singers are students of various technical, humanitarian, natural sciences and other specialties who have no musical education. The love of music allowed them to become one and perform the most complicated choral pieces. Academic Choir of FEFU is constantly evolving, its repertoire includes pieces of Russian and foreign classics, works by contemporary composers, spiritual music, jazz compositions and songs of peoples of the world. The choir regularly participates in regional and international competitions and festivals and always receives high awards and gratitude from the audience. Academic Choir of FEFU was awarded by one gold and two silver medals of III International Florentine Choir Festival (Florence, Italy) in 2014. In 2016 the choir won two gold and one silver medal at 9th World Choir Games in Sochi. In 2017 the choir became the laureate of I Prizes of XIII International Competition of Choral Art “Singing World” in nominations “Mixed choirs” and “Contemporary music”, as well as the winner of special jury prizes “For the best presentation of the program” and “For the best musical choreography”.

Elena Petukhova Art director and conductor of Academic Choir of Far Eastern Federal University. Elena graduated from Far Eastern State Institute of Arts in 1993 with a degree in conducting the choir. Since the student years she has had a passion for creativity, love of music and people. It allows her to achieve an incredible sense of unity with the collective and the audience when she works with the choir. Elena Petukhova is the conductor of three choral collectives: the choir of junior classes “Firefly” (Svetlyachok), the choir of senior classes “Scarlet Sails” (Alye parusa) of Sergey Prokofiev Vladivostok children music school #1 and Academic Choir of FEFU. The collectives under the leadership of Elena regularly take part in all-Russian and international choral competitions and festivals. In 2013 the choir of senior classes “Scarlet Sails” (Alye parusa) of children music school #1 won the Grand Prix of III All-Russian competition of children’s academic choirs and vocal ensembles “Singing Childhood” (St. Petersburg), and Elena became the holder of the title “Best Conductor”. In 2016 the choir “Scarlet Sails” won the gold and silver medal of the 9th World Choir Games (Sochi), became the champion of IV Asian and Pacific choral games (Colombo, Sri Lanka) in 2017 in nominations “Children’s Choirs” and “Sacred music without accompaniment”, as well as the winner of the Grand Prix of Nations (Colombo, Sri Lanka) in the category “Children’s Choirs “.

Participants – The Children and Youth Choir of Heraklio (Greece)

The Children and Youth Choir of Heraklio was founded in 1985. A number of professional choristers as well as distinguished soloists with careers both in Greece and abroad have been members of this choir. It consists of 100 children, divided into 5 groups, aged 7 to 26.
The choir has visited countries such as: the Czech Republic, France, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Italy. Its repertoire includes Renaissance and Baroque as well as 20th century musical pieces.
In March 2017 the choir held a Seminar of Interpretation of Claudio Monteverdi’s music with Anna Papagiannaki Divani. In July 2017 the choir was chosen by the Ionian University as the workshop choir in the Choir Conducting Seminar taught by internationally acclaimed Choir Conductor, Doreen Rao.
The pianist of the choir is Nikos Kokinis, the Singing teacher is Anna Papagiannaki Divani and the theory and solfege teacher is Nikos Kiprakis.

Ioannis Idomeneos
Conductor
Ioannis Idomeneos was born in Iraklion, Crete. After his studies in Greece (degree in Harmony, Counterpoint, Instrumentation, Fugue, Diploma in Classical Singing – class of F. Voutsinos and K. Pashalis) he lived in Paris (1999-2007) where he continued his studies in Choir Conducting (Conservatoire National de Boulogne-Billancourt – class of M. Guengard) and in Classical Singing with J.L. Dumoulin in Conservatoire National de Pantin, from which he graduated in 2002. In 2003-2004 he completed his knowledge on the teaching of singing in ARIAM Ile de France. He has attended singing seminars with: Laura Sarti, Denise Dupleix, Irma Kolasi, Jeff Cohen, Noel Lee, Francois Le Roux (Fr. Poulenc Academy) , Gabriel Garrido (Ambronay Academy), and Helmuth Rilling (J. S. Bach Academy) and Choir Conducting with Antonis Kontogeorgiou.
He has cooperated with the ensembles: Accentus, Musicatreize, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Concerto Koln, Arsys, Orchestra and Choir of the National Radio and Television, Orchestra of Colours, in several performances in Greece, Cyprus, France, Finland, Czech Republic, Austria, Spain, Germany.
He cooperated with Nikos Mamagakis and features in his albums: “Heimat”, “Saint Erotokritos” (Prevelakis), “Erofili” (Hortatsis), “Shadow Opera” and the melodrama “Erotokritos” (V. Kornaros).
He teaches the art of singing in the Theatre school “Notos” and he conducts the Children Since January 2013 the choir is conducted by Ioannis Idomeneos.
